Pros and Cons for investing in a used Mitsubishi Pajero

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

Considered a sports utility vehicle, the used Mitsubishi Pajero for sale has an interesting history. Its name alone has generated controversy in other countries where Spanish is the main language spoken. Translated to English, the Spanish word pajero  has sexual intonations or can mean “liar.” This made the idea of a used Mitsubishi Pajero for sale in Spanish speaking countries extremely touchy. The company did change the name in these countries to Montero which means related to hunting.

This was one of the cons revolving around the Pajero. There are others which may change your mind about investing in this car such as supposedly being good for rough road conditions, but not exactly delivering on this promise.  Also, if you are thinking of getting the earlier models like the 1993, you will find out that engine is not as powerful as the later generations and its airbag for the driver is still the old style, and not located at the side.
Eventually, the company stopped working on improving the Pajero so that after 1998, sales dropped and the value of the car also decreased.
On the positive side, the Mitsubishi Pajero has anti-brake locking, a spacious interior, 4 valves in the cylinder engine for models launched after 1995, and dual airbags and a middle seat in the 1996 version. It has also managed to maintain its air of prestige especially in Asian countries.
In addition, it is fuel efficient with a very smooth ride and easy steering. The interior is comfortable bordering on luxurious. Compared to other sports utility vehicles, the Mitsubishi Pajero outclasses most except for the European brands like the Mercedes Benz van and the Land Rover.
If you are thinking of buying a used Pajero, make sure you check the documents and find out the origin of the van. Japan is a preferable place of origin because you know they would put in original parts. You have to watch out for the Pajeros being sold in other Asian countries where the replacement parts have been butchered and inferior parts were installed instead. This car is also highly attractive to thieves and so you have to check the documents and make sure you are not buying a stolen Pajero. Most certified resellers can be trusted if they have an existing business and client roster.
